Mountain bike excursion along the sea and in the hills above Messina

Excursions are on Fridays.

A fabulous bike excursion discovering the countryside around Messina.

Crossing maritime pine, chestnut and holm woods, we go up into the hills above Messina for a spectacular view over the Strait. We’ll also have a ride along the coast, when we depart, and a stop at a historic eating place, “Don Minico” – all adding up to a real taste of the nature, landscapes and traditions of this still-unspoilt corner of Sicily, wedged between the sea and the hills.

Excursion Programme:

• 08:45 Departure from the Mtb Sicily shop towards the coast, ride of approximately 5 km along the coast, enjoying the beautiful views over the sea. When we reach the start of Torrente Sperone we start our ride up towards Faro Superiore, and we then continue upwards to Curcuraci, on twisting roads with fabulous views. On reaching the former military barracks of Portella Castanea we go towards the famous “Four Roads” crossroads, near “Don Minico”, a historic eating-place and an “institution” for lovers of hillside walks, who can fortify themselves here with one of their tasty sandwiches. We then continue upwards, towards Dinnammare, along a single trackway surrounded by chestnut trees, pines and holm oaks. After a few hundred metres on an asphalt and dirt track, we arrive at the descent through the Camaro wood. From here we pick up the asphalt track again, which leads us back to our departure point.
