The Panteschi (the inhabitants of Pantelleria), proud people with a strong character like their island, with intelligence and great sacrifices they have been cultivating the fertile land of the volcano for millennia obtaining many typical products(capers, olives and vegetables) which are combined together with the fish in the tasty cuisine of the island often accompanied by the passito, inimitable DOC wine produced with Zibibbo grapes.

We cross thick woods, barren expanses of lava rocks, stretches of Mediterranean maquis, the typical agricultural landscape, the gariga, until we see ancient craters and high cliffs and discover the many botanical, geological, faunistic and volcanological peculiarities gathered on this small piece of land in the middle of the sea. We sleep in the Dammusi, the typical Pantelleria houses we will visit some of the wonderful coves and beaches in which the black of the lava contrasts with the sea colored like precious stones.

1st DAY – ARRIVAL IN PALERMO
Arrival at Palermo airport, meeting with the guide. Transfer to the city, hotel accommodation.
Free visit of this extraordinary city, crossroads of peoples and cultures since always, that keeps in the architecture, in the gastronomy and in the traditions the traces of ancient multiple civilizations. A visit to the lively outdoor markets is a must.
Free dinner, overnight stay.
2nd DAY – ARRIVAL IN PANTELLERIA
In the morning transfer from the airport and accommodation in the hotel in Bugeber. In the afternoon we begin the knowledge of the island by visiting the nearby and beautiful Specchio di Venere – Mirror of Venus, the lake whose thermal waters and its sulphurous mud are rich in therapeutic and cosmetic properties.
3rd DAY – GELFISER
We begin to know the peculiarities of the island in an excursion, sometimes/at times Pantesque, which will see Monte Gelfiser as the protagonist and the rural landscape of Pantelleria as co-protagonists. Difficulty of route: Middle-easy.

4th DAY – PUNTA SPADILLO
We will cross the spectacular lava flow of the Khaggiar that reaches the sea forming the magnificent Cala Cinque Denti. We will walk along the incredible promontory of Punta Spadillo with the magical Lake of the Ondine and the fundamental Volcanological Museum, a true “ledger” of the Black Pearl. Return with the possibility of bathing at Cala Cottone or lengthening a little, via/Street Lago di Venere. Difficulty of route: Middle-easy.

5th DAY – BALATA OF TURKS
After a necessary transfer we go down to the sea along a path protected from the wind and therefore rich in tall and luxuriant vegetation, above all bushes of wild broom and fragrant pines. It leads us to the Balata dei Turchi, the landing place used by the Saracens who arrived on the island undisturbed. Difficulty of the route: Easy.

6th DAY – MONTAGNA GRANDE
One of the most important routes in the National Park. After a short transfer we reach the highest point of the island, along a path surrounded by greenery, the Big Mountain (836m), an ancient and the highest volcanic crater of the island. Let’s explore the summit, the Grotta dei Briganti and return to Bugeber on foot. A path that is challenging at times but of great landscape and natural value. Difficulty of the route: Medium

7th DAY – FAVARE
We walk along the path of the Favare, between volcanic phenomena and wild nature to end in a part of the island where there is a strong contrast between the volcanic environment and the cultivated environment. Possibility to conclude the excursion with a visit and bath to Scauri, second urban center of the island. Difficulty of the route: Middle.

8th DAY – CIRCUMNAVIGATION OF THE ISLAND BY BOAT
By boat we circumnavigate the island of Pantelleria, a journey of about 42 km, discovering bays and caves visible only from the sea and appreciating the many volcanological peculiarities of the island. Alternatively, in the event of adverse sea conditions, we will visit the inhabited center for a day from “Panteschi”. Possibility to visit the Castle and some archaeological sites.

9th DAY – PALERMO
Departure by air/plane for a second stop in Palermo, to still appreciate the immense architectural and cultural heritage of this ancient capital.
10th – DEPARTURE
Based on flight times, transfer to the airport.
Walk: you can walk without technical difficulty on trails with gradients up to a maximum of 500m uphill, so it is recommended to arrive with a minimum of training. Given the size of the island we will use transport for longer journeys.
Nights: farm-holidays/farmhouse in rooms with bathroom.
Meals:
– Italian breakfast in the structure that hosts us
– typical picnic lunches by the guide except for the first and last day. The boat ride includes lunch on board, in case of bad weather-sea lunch in the restaurant.
– dinners on the farmhouse.
What to bring: hiking boots, backpack for daily needs, comfortable clothes, front lamp, sun protection, bathing suit/swimsuit.
Difficulty of the route: easy/medium.
It is a fixed-base trip with daily backpack and continuous difference in height.
